I had the opportunity to take part in an introductory stop-motion workshop on February 3rd, led by the animator Miranda Peyton-Jones.During the session, I noted the structure of the workshop, which brought together around twenty participants to discover the process of frame-by-frame animation. It began with a brief introduction and historical overview of the technique by Miranda, followed by a demonstration using charcoal. The remainder of the session was dedicated to hands-on experimentation with charcoal and paper, captured using the Stop Motion Studio app. This tool greatly simplifies image capture and sequencing, allowing participants to produce a rough edit by the end of the two-hour session.
Interested in this mode of sharing and in the transmission of stop-motion through workshops, I got in touch with Miranda and had the opportunity to assist her during an other workshop held at Bell House in Dulwich on March 21st, 2026. This experience allowed me to gain insight into the pedagogy of stop-motion and to take part in a larger-scale event, as this session lasted four hours. Although I was initially interested in organizing a workshop for Projection 2, I ultimately chose to pursue a different project. Nevertheless, I am very glad to have explored another way of engaging with and celebrating this technique, alongside a broad and beginner audience.
